Jamaican author and Miami Dade College professor, Geoffrey Philp, has just published a new children’s e-book, Grandpa Sydney’s Anancy Stories. South Florida Caribbean News writes that during the limited promotional period, October 2-6, 2012, Amazon Kindle is offering free downloads of this heartwarming story.
“Anancy stories have always fascinated me,” said Professor Philp. “Because of his size, Anancy’s opponents underestimate his ability. By using his intelligence, Anancy turns his weakness into strength and overcomes every obstacle. This is a valuable lesson that I hope our children will learn.”
Grandpa Sydney’s Anancy Stories, a children’s eBook, is about a young boy, Jimmy Harrison, who uses the moral from the Anancy story, “Tiger and Snake,” to overcome a bully who has been terrorizing him.
With e-books accounting for nearly 10% of trade book sales in the U.S. more authors are taking advantage of the ease of publishing in the new medium. Professor Philp continued, “Our children are fully immersed in the digital culture and bullying is now a pressing concern in our schools, so it was only logical to release Grandpa Sydney’s Anancy Stories as an e-book.”
