The Bahamas Historical Society’s “The Small Art Auction House” Tonight

Today (Friday, July 13, 2012) at 6:30pm, The Bahamas Historical Society presents “The Small Art Auction House,” a one-night only live auction with over 50 participating artists in Nassau, the Bahamas.

The Small Art Auction House is designed to be a fun take on the traditional auction house and will be comprised of a live-auction of “postcard” sized artworks donated by over 50 Bahamian and international artists. The artwork (approx. 5” x 7”) spans all media including drawing, painting, photography, mixed media, textiles and sculpture. There is no theme. The only guideline provided to the artists was that the postcard should reference their larger body of work. All art will start bidding at US$50.00.

In addition to the live-auction, The Small Art Auction House will have a small silent auction of works by local artists as well as live music from The Bahamas Music Conservatory Ensemble and a raffle. To top it all off, they are partnering with Poinciana Paper Press to publish a limited-edition handmade book inspired by and made exclusively for this event. The collection of six-word stories (short and sweet) titled Death, Debt & Divorce by Bahamian and Caribbean writers will be on sale throughout the evening.

All funds raised from the event go towards the tuition of Bahamian cultural worker Jon Murray for his studies in Art History at Hunter College (CUNY) this Fall. Tickets will include admission, the ability to bid and complimentary wine and hors d’oeuvres.

Tickets are available at Doongalik Studios Art Gallery at 18 Village Road or by calling (242) 394.1886. You may also send inquiries via email to smallartauctionhouse@gmail.com
