Unfortunately, I received this information very late, but perhaps some of our readers will be able to make the deadline for this interesting conference; the deadline for online submissions is today, July 13, 2012. Hosted by the University of Missouri, Cultural Bricolage is a collaborative, multidisciplinary conference exploring various topics related to artistic creation, production and entrepreneurship as exemplified by the work of Ediciones Vigía, a unique artists’ collective (founded in 1985 in Matanzas, Cuba) that produces limited edition handmade books by Cuban and international authors and musicians. The conference will take place November 11-13, 2012.
Key speakers for the conference will include: Nancy Morejón, Poet Laureate and winner of Cuba’s National Prize for Literature; Ruth Behar, MacArthur Fellow and Victor Haim Perera Collegiate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Michigan; and Rolando Estévez Jordán, principal designer and artist of Ediciones Vigía and winner of Cuba’s National Prize for Book Design; among others.
Proposals for conference sessions, papers and visual presentations are welcome on topics related, but not limited to: Aesthetics and Book Making; Graphic Design, Experimental Aesthetics, and Bricolage; Dialogue between Literature and Visual Art; Institutional Organization and Art Production; Relationship between Artistic Creativity and Entrepreneurial Creativity; Collaborative Art Production / Collective Entrepreneurship; Art and Social and Political Contexts; and Rare Books Conservation.
The deadline for submission of proposals is July 13, 2012. The proposals will be peer reviewed. Applicants will be notified by August 3, 2012. Approved presenters must confirm their attendance by registering for the conference no later than September 1, 2012. The conference fee is $75.00 for non-MU participants. Registration fees for MU participants are waived due to a grant from Mizzou Advantage. Student presenters participating in the conference will be offered complimentary registration.
