Eleven Haitian migrants who were aboard a boat that capsized recently in the Bahamas have been buried on the Caribbean island, the Associated Press reports.
Hundreds of Haitians showed up for Saturday’s funeral in the capital of Nassau. Among those buried were five children ranging in age from 7 to 11.
The group had drowned near the island of Abaco on June 10. Crews rescued seven people and 10 others are still missing.
Police have charged a Haitian national who lives in the Bahamas with abetment to manslaughter for his alleged role in the deaths. Authorities are still looking for the boat’s captain.
