Holistic Music School’s Reading in Key Concert Series returns to the National Library (audio-visual room) on Saturday 23rd June 2012, with show times at 1:00pm, 2:30pm, 4:30pm and 6:00 p.m. Designed to celebrate the power of music and literacy in building self- confidence, discipline, social-emotional skills and intellect in our youth, this seventh Reading in Key concert series will feature novice to advance students, junior choir, teachers and the Holistic Music School Award Winning Big Band.
Launched in the audio-visual room of the National Library on Valentine’s Day 2004 by Earl Lovelace, Lynette Comissiong, Brother Resistance and Ataklan, Holistic Music School’s Reading in Key programme has grown significantly over the past eight years.
Many of the students who originally debuted on “Reading in Key” stages playing four and eight measures of music in 2004, have excelled at the Trinidad and Tobago Music Festival 2012, winning many classes including 10 Championship trophies. To date, hundreds of Holistic students have also received practical Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music (ABRSM) certificates from Prep Test to Grade 8 on piano, guitar, woodwind, brass, percussion and voice, with a significant percentage of students performing with distinction and merit.
Reflecting on music education in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago, Dr. Patricia Dardaine-Ragguet, Director of Holistic Schools, commented “Music plays such an important role in our society. Therefore, music education should be a vital part of our national curriculum from preschool to tertiary education. Holistic Music School, a private school with a public mission, will not rest on its laurels but will continue to develop music education programmes for the people of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago.”
Concerts will entertain and inspire family audiences of all ages and include several genres of music from Classical to Rock, Pop, Calypso, Reggae, Rhythm & Blues and Jazz. Tickets are available at Holistic Music School Adult $100.00, Child $50.00. All proceeds go towards the Holistic Schools Building Fund.
Reading in Key” is a research-based, holistic approach to reading designed by Dr. Patricia Dardaine-Ragguet, director and teacher at Holistic Schools.
