Tarrus Riley’s recent five-date performance across the United Kingdom has brought his latest dancehall hit, “Summer Fling,” to new heights on the music charts. Produced by Jordan McClure of Chimney Records, it is currently number four on the BBC1Xtra Dancehall chart in the UK.
Riley’s UK concerts in the five different venues (in Birmingham, Manchester, and London) were all quickly sold out. Riley commented that this made him realize that Jamaican music continues to grow in popularity in England and beyond.
Commenting on “Summer Fling,” Riley said: “I love dancehall and nothing is wrong with a song of this nature. It’s something different from what my fans are accustomed to hearing me sing and I will continue to do more dancehall songs.” During his sets, Riley performed his current and former hits including “Armageddon Time,” “She’s Royal,” “Lion Paw,” and “Summer Fling.”
Riley, who recently covered Beres Hammond’s 1980s hit, “Groovy Little Thing,” was excited about sharing the stage with the veteran crooner during the UK shows. “I sang with Beres onstage, so that for me was one of the highlights of the five shows. We also did a tribute to Gregory Isaacs and Sugar Minott during the performance,” said Riley.
Aside from the “Summer Fling” chart success, Riley is also enjoying “chart action” with songs including “Armageddon Time” and “Come Ova.” The latter is currently number one in several Caribbean countries. Meanwhile, the “Armageddon Time” video is number five on TEMPO’s Cross Caribbean Countdown and number eight on Suzie Q’s Video Alley Reggae Top Ten.
