
Former President Jimmy Carter and Mrs. Carter will join 500 volunteers to build 100 homes in Haiti during the week-long Habitat for Humanity Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter Work Project on November 5-12, 2011.
The Carters, along with Habitat for Humanity, are committed to rehabilitating and providing safe, accessible housing for displaced victims of the January 2010 7.0 earthquake that struck the island nation of Haiti and was considered to be centered in the city of Léogâne, Haiti. They will oversee the construction of homes in the Santo community where families are currently living in tents and other temporary structures.
The schedule of events is as follows:
Saturday, November 5, starting at 5:00pm, there will be a kick-off event at the Sheraton Gateway Hotel Atlanta Airport at 1900 Sullivan Road, Atlanta, Georgia.
Monday, November 7, at 10:00am: Press conference with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter at the build site in Léogâne, Haiti.
Tuesday, November 8, at 10:00am: Photo opportunity with Jimmy and Rosalynn Carter and Haiti President Michel Martelly, followed by brief Q&A session at the build site in Léogâne, Haiti.
Friday, November 11, at 3:00pm: Home dedications at build site.
Léogâne, Haiti,is an area 18 miles west of Port-au-Prince that is considered to be the epicenter of the Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake. Shuttle service to the build site will be available Monday, Tuesday and Friday at 8:00am from Pétion-Ville in Port-au-Prince. Shuttles will return at 2:00pm, 3:00pm, and 4:30pm, respectively. Please fill out a media credential form to reserve a seat on the shuttle.
