On Thursday, October 6, 2011, the group Amethys (Âmes Métisses) will offer a free concert at Le Petit New-York, located on the beach road in St Félix, in Le Gosier, Guadeloupe. “Amethys” was born in 2010 as a result of the joining together of singer-songwriter Corinne Pierre-Fanfan and musician/composer Marco HumanMusician, who plays the guitar and the sintir (or guembri, traditional Gnawa instrument).
Their original style, best described as “métisse” (as their name indicates) is a blend of Caribbean rhythms and deep melodies from Africa, with an intertwining of several influences including soul, Creole, jazz, Gnawa, blues and Afrobeat styles. Their lyrics are in French, Creole, and occasionally, in English.
The duo is in the process of producing its first album, to be completed by the end of the year.
