Foreign film professionals to share expertise at film festival

A number of foreign filmmakers, actors and other film industry professionals are attending the trinidad+tobago film festival/11 (ttff/11), taking place from 21 September to 4 October.

The Festival, presented by Flow, is a celebration of the best new and recent films from and about T&T, the Caribbean and its diaspora. Nearly 100 films are being screened at locations across the country.

In addition to the many local filmmakers who are attending the ttff/11, several film industry professionals from abroad are scheduled to be a part of the Festival. They will host Q&A sessions after the screening of their films, facilitate workshops and speak at panel discussions on filmmaking and the Caribbean film industry.

One of the foreign attendees is Guyanese-American filmmaker Shundell Prasad who is screening her debut feature film, the drama Festival of Lights, while Trinidadian-American filmmaker Steve Rahaman will be presenting his film, the boxing drama To Be King. Miriel Cejas, the lead actress from the Cuban drama Boleto al Paraiso (Ticket to Paradise), will be here in support of that film, while Martinican director Guy Deslauriers brings his historical drama Aliker and Jamaican filmmaker Storm Saulter presents his film: Better Mus’ Come, which has already screened to a packed audience at Trevor’s Edge, St Augustine.

A number of the ttff/11’s awards jury members are also coming from overseas. They include acclaimed British filmmaker Adam Low, who will be conducting a masterclass on documentary filmmaking in addition to his jury duties, and Prof Ika Bunting, Director of the Zanzibar International Film Festival, who will run a two-day workshop on participatory filmmaking in Tobago.

The ttff, which is in its sixth year, is given leading sponsorship by RBC Royal Bank and is supported by the Trinidad & Tobago Film Company, the National Gas Company, the Tourism Development Company, bpTT and the Tobago House of Assembly.
