Mankind Entertainment has attached Michael Radford to direct Castro’s Daughter, the true life story of Aline Fernández, the exiled daughter of Cuba’s Fidel Castro who fled her homeland in disguise after clashing with her father. Bobby Moresco, co-writer of Crash, has written the screenplay with Cuban playwright Nilo Cruz (Anna in the Tropics). Mankind’s John Torres Martínez and Joe Lamy are producing.
Radford was Oscar-nominated as both director and adapted screenplay writer for 1994’s Il Postino, for which he also won two BAFTA awards.
Radford’s attachment was put together by Mankind and Sue Rodgers of London’s Independent Talent.
The Austin-based Mankind is also developing a film version of Anna in the Tropics with playwright Cruz and writer-director Lee Daniels. WME’s global finance and distribution unit is packaging, financing and repping both films.
