New Edition: “Ode to Saint Croix”

Whim Museum and Undercover Books present a limited edition replica of “Ode to Saint Croix” (Paris: Eagull International Publications), Reverend Henry J. Morton’s 1844 manuscript poem, with an introduction by Michael Connors. The Whim Museum Store is located in Frederiksted, and Undercover Books at Gallows Bay, Christiansted, in St. Croix, U.S. Virgin Islands.

Description: Morton’s work is a twenty-five page hand-written poem with twenty-four marvelous drawings that offer insight into the long forgotten and scarcely recorded island colonial era. Eagull Publication’s exquisite replication would be an excellent addition to the collection of anyone who cherishes the history of St. Croix. The cost is $125.

The Reverend Henry Jackson Morton, “an artist with a keen eye and a joyous spirit,” went to the then Danish West Indies from Philadelphia in the winter of 1843-1844 with his family for the sake of the health of his brother, Quincy.
