
Hosted by Casa del Caribe and the Cuban Ministry of Culture, the 30th Annual Caribbean Festival “Feast of Fire” [Festival del Caribe: Fiesta del Fuego] will take place July 3-9, 2010, in Santiago, Cuba. The festival will be dedicated this year to the culture of Curaçao and Pernambuco.
Casa del Caribe also invites the general public to the International Colloquium “The Caribbean That Unites Us” [El Caribe que nos une] to be held within the framework of the Festival, on July 3-7. There will be plenary sessions, panels, poster presentations, and roundtables on a wide variety of topics including migration, popular culture, artistic creation, trans-Caribbean discourses, Caribbean thought and identity processes, popular culture, social projects, among many others. There will also be a variety of specialized workshops on popular religions, traditional medicine, poetry, orality , and music in the Caribbean.
The organizers describe the Caribbean Festival as “a cultural and academic space for reflection on history and culture of our peoples and gathering place to showcase the rich heritage of the region. The Festival is a space for expressing solidarity, diversity, and friendship among peoples and the right of Being.”
