Nicolas Anelka given new contract by Chelsea after France tribulations

Martinique-French Chelsea striker Nicolas Anelka has signed a one-year extension to his contract just days after being sent home from the World Cup, London’s Telegraph reports.

Anelka, who appears to have insulted coach Raymond Domenech during France’s clash with Mexico at the World Cup and then missed training after a row with the France coach, seems to have put the controversy behind him by signing a contract extension with the Chelsea club until 2012. Anelka, 31, has appeared 123 times for Chelsea since arriving from Bolton in January 2008, scoring 42 goals.

The news comes amid earlier reports that Anelka was p lanning to announce his retirement.
