Barbados parliament has paid tribute to singer Rihanna with a gift of land in an upscale community. The island’s parliament approved the present of a 2,635 square meter property at Apes Hill, St James. The BBC reports that it is the country’s way of recognizing her outstanding achievements, which have brought fame to her native land.
Barbados minister of youth Stephen Lashley suggests that the tribute may serve to inspire others to reach their goals, saying that “This resolution is a vote of confidence in the kind of talent that is symbolic not only of Rihanna but certainly of young Barbadians who aspire to be part of the developmental process of Barbados.”
While praising Rihanna for her achievements and international fame, acting Prime Minister Freundel Stuart advises young people to be careful about how they try to attain their goals and to remember that these achievements require hard work, adding that “while we applaud those who perform creditably and we highlight the fact they are deserving of the gratitude of a nation, the impression must never be conveyed that the way to the top is easy, and that renown and fame and so on, once got, represents a final achievement.”
Rihanna is currently touring the world with her Last Girl on Earth shows.
