Mordzinski exhibit includes portraits of Caribbean writers

 “Las tres orillas” (The Three Banks) is the title of an exhibit of photographs by Argentina’s Daniel Mordzinski at the French Institute in Madrid. The show, which opened June 9th, includes 150 portraits by Mordzinski, who is widely known as “the writers’ photographer.”

The exhibit was organized as part of the activities marking Spain’s celebration of its terms at the presidency of the European Council of the EU and commemorates the celebration of the bicentennial of the declarations of independence by Latin American nations. Its focus is on the role literature has played in cultural exchanges between Europe and Latin America. The exhibit is accompanied by a catalogue in Spanish and French that includes 180 photographs of writers such as Jean d’Ormesson, Marie Darrieussecq, Jacques Derrida, Anna Gavalda, Michel Houellebecq,  J.M.G Le Clézio, Claude Levi-Strauss, Amin Maalouf, Patrick Modiano, Daniel Pennac, Fred Vargas, Mario Benedetti, Eduardo Berti, Jorge-Luis Borges, Gabriel Garcia-Márquez, Elsa Osorio, Octavio Paz, Luis Sepúlveda, Mario Vargas-Llosa, Zoé Valdés, Rafael Alberti, Miguel Delibes, Juan Goytisolo, Eduardo Mendoza, Ignacio Ramonet, Ruiz Zafón, Jorge Semprún and Enrique Vila-Matas.

About thirty of the writers included have written a text to accompany their photographs, as in the case of Víctor Andresco, Laura Alcoba, Héctor Abad, Eduardo Berti, Alfredo Bryce Echenique, Javier Cercas, Juan Cruz, Enrique de Hériz, Jacques Darras, Patrick Deville, Stephane Dovert, José Manuel Fajardo, Christian Garcin, Wendy Guerra, Mempo Giardinelli, Olivier Guez, Fernando Iwasaki, Martín Kohan, Yvon Le Men, César Antonio Molina, Alfonso Mateo-Sagasta, Pierre Michon, Rosa Montero, Álvaro Mutis, Andrés Neuman, Elsa Osorio, Santiago Rocangliolo, Mayra Santos-Febres, Luis Sepúlveda, Karla Suárez, José Luis Sampedro, Antonio Sarabia,  Zoé Valdés, Mario Vargas Llosa, Mayra Montero, y Fred Vargas.

The volume includes facsimiles of letters, notes, and e-mails sent by the writers to Mordzinski.
