Brazilian cartoonist Carlos Latuff has expressed his support of the students of the University of Puerto Rico, who have been on strike for over a month; see his recent cartoon above (the building about to be crushed is the iconic tower of the main building of the University of Puerto Rico-Río Piedras.
Born in Rio de Janeiro (1968) Latuff is a political cartoonist well-known in Latin America, North Latin America, Europe, and the Middle East. Considered controversial, much of Latuff’s work is critical of Israel (in the Palestinian-Israeli conflict) and U.S. military action in Iraq and Afghanistan. He has also touched on issues like Apartheid in South Africa, the plight of Native Americans in the US and the oppression of Tibetans in China.
