
The Marist Praxis Project for Public Citizenship and Campus Ministry at Marist College present “Haitian Solidarity Day,” an all-day event featuring a variety of lectures, displays, music, film, and presentations by students, faculty, and guests on the social and political situation in Haiti before and after the devastating earthquake. Short films and Haitian music will be playing throughout the day. The activities will be held on Tuesday, April 27, from 11:00am-11:00pm in the Cabaret (Student Center), Marist College (Poughkeepsie, New York). Organic Haitian dishes will be available for lunch at the Valley Café (in the Cabaret) from 11:30am-1:30pm.
Presentations include “Trafficking and the Restaveks” by Professors Sherry Dingman and Vernon Murray, “Psychology of Trauma” by Sherry Dingman, “NYC Medics and First Responders to the Earthquake” by David Violante, and “Paul Farmer and Liberation Theology” by Mar Peter-Raoul.” There will be several relief projects represented including Marist Brothers in Haiti, Jeff’s Orphanage, and Sherry Dingman’s Haitian Project.
Evening events will include a performance by Haitian guitarist Marc Mathelier at 7:00pm and the screening of The Agronomist at 9:00pm.
