
Artistic Demonstration to Protest Destruction of Green Areas in Old San JuanToday (April 23, 2010) at 4:30pm, musicians, visual artists, writers, and other interested in creative expression will gather to perform an artistic demonstration in front of the well-known La Rogativa sculpture (shown here) in Old San Juan. This peaceful demonstration as been organized as a response to the indiscriminate cutting of trees and other vegetation in Old San Juan, Puerto Rico, and other sections of the metropolitan area.
Some of the activities will include the performance of “Relatos para un paisaje asesinado” [Stories for an Assassinated Landscape] by Puerto Rican composer Rafael Aponte Ledée, a collaborative work with writer Tomás López Ramírez and artist Wilfredo Chiesa. Writer Carmen Alicia Morales will recite her poem “Poema para los Jardines” [Poem for the Gardens]. Various community groups will also participate. The public at large is invited to take part in this communal event.
