Sponsored by the Soufrière Foundation and local businesses, the Soufrière Creole Jazz Festival is a three-day event offering a diverse range of music including jazz, reggae, cadence-lypso, and soca. It will take place from April 30 (from 8:00pm) to May 2, 2010, at the waterfront in Soufrière, the Soufrière Mini Stadium, and the Fond Gens Libre [Valley of the Free People] at the foot of Gros Piton, home of the runaway slaves and their descendants.
The opening event will feature many local bands including the popular Future Lights, Phaze, St Lucia School of Music Jazz Band, New Vibes, and the Gramacks from Dominica. The next day, Sulphur Springs Jazz will host Klimax (a timba band from Cuba), Mystic, and Claudette Adjodha. On May 2 the Gros Piton Jazz activity will offer reggae music at the Fond Gens Libre at Gros Piton, featuring leading reggae bands 4th World, Daddy Twan, Zionomi, and the Matrix Band from Soufrière.
