Bildner Center Lecture/Panel on Cuba and the Caribbean

There will be two Cuba Project events hosted by the Bildner Center for Western Hemisphere Studies (The Graduate Center, CUNY) the week of March 1, 2010. The Graduate Center is located at 365 Fifth Avenue at 34th Street.

The first, to be held on March 1 at 4:00pm is by Gerardo González Núñez (Universidad Interamericana, Puerto Rico), who will present “Business Opportunities in Cuba: Implications for Puerto Rico, Dominican Republic, and the Caribbean.” It will take place in Rooms 9204/9205. This presentation will be in Spanish.

The second will be a panel session entitled Across the Windward Passage: Three Perspectives on Cuba and Haiti.” The panelists are Ada Ferrer (New York University), presenting “Cuban Slave Society in the Shadow of the Haitian Revolution,” Elzbieta Sklodowska (Washington University at St. Louis), presenting “Haiti and Cuban Oriente: Contact Zones and Zones of Silence,” and Sybille M. Fischer (New York University). This discussion will take place on March 5, 2010, 4:00pm at Room C198.
