An environmental activist from Curaçao, Ryan de Jongh, has paddled more than 1600 kilometres in a kayak to raise awareness for the environment. He also raised money for a marine biology science institute threatened with closure. The journey began on December 5 on the Netherlands Antilles island of St Maarten and ended in Curaçao on Sunday December 27.
During the 22-day trip, he visited 17 Caribbean islands, becoming, in the process, the first person recorded as having accomplished the feat. Among his stops were St.Kitts, Guadeloupe, Dominica, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Grenada, and finally Curaçao.
