The Pío López Museum of Art Museo of the University of Puerto Rico-Cayey invites the community to the opening of the photography exhibit Re/velar [Reveal or Re-veil] on Sunday, December 13, 2009, at 3:00pm in the museum’s Lorenzo Homar Room.
Re/velar shows the presence of photography in contemporary graphic arts in Puerto Rico. The exhibition details the technical and formal processes that have contributed to a rich array of visual effects in the Puerto Rican imaginary as reflected through the graphic arts, which have served to explore and comment on social and political concerns.
The exhibition is dedicated to artists Carlos Irizarry and Joaquín Mercado who set the precedents for a graphic art that incorporates photography to printmaking. Re/velar also features works by artists who have developed an aesthetic language whereby photography is an essential part of the graphic project, such as Aixa Requena, Abigail Pantoja, Rafael Miranda, Ramón Miranda Beltrán, Jesús Gómez, Zinthia Vázquez, Javier Maldonado O`Farril, and Elsa Meléndez, among others.
