Trinidadian company Caribbean Idol Co Ltd is gearing up to the regional “Caribbean Idol” competition. The winner will receive a package worth $1,000,000 (US) which includes a recording contract. Participants from approximately 30 Caribbean countries will participate to compete for the grand prize. Artists from ages 18 to 39 will be able to register to compete starting in January 2010.
Contestants must be singers that have no current recording contracts or management arrangements and they must be able to verify their Caribbean heritage. After registration and auditions, each participating country will choose 15 candidates who will then compete for a $100,000 prize. Once launched, the competition will be developed over a period of 18 months and will be televised in the participating countries. There will be a registration fee of $50, which may be waived in some cases. Registration will be possible on-line or at various venues that have not yet been announced.
