The 8th Annual Grace Jamaican Jerk Festival will take place from 10 a.m.-10 p.m. Nov. 8 at Markham Park, 16001 W. State Road 84 in Sunrise. The headliner is singer Alison Hinds, also known as the “Queen of Soca,” who will perform Soca in my Body and Roll It Gyal. Byron Lee’s Dragonaires will perform ska, reggae, dancehall and some of their own original calypso and soca hits, like Tiney Winey, Dancehall Soca and Butterfly Soca. Reggae singer-songwriter Ken Boothe will share his hits on a lineup that also includes saxophonist Dean Fraser, Miami-based band Benaiah and vocalist Ambilique.Norma Darby and the Jamaica Folk Revue will present stories and songs of national heroes, something they’ve been doing for more than 30 years.
There will also be a sample of Indian culture through music and dance, presented by Jamaican Indians of South Florida, plus a fashion show, moko jumbie stilt walkers, limbo dancers and much more.
