dansemetis1109

The Rencontres Danses Métisses festival centers on contemporary dance representing Creole, “creolized,” and/or diverse mixed communities and practices from around the globe. With close to 250 artists, the festival includes introductory courses for children and adults, workshops, master classes for advanced dancers, the open air “Ciné-danse” presentation, and numerous shows featuring dance companies from Brazil, Corsica, French Guiana, Mozambique, and Suriname. With much success, this is the fifth year the festival has been held in Cayenne, French Guiana. The festival will run from November 27 until December 6, 2009.

Courses will take place November 27-29 at the PROGT or ENMD School; the open air cinema feature will be held on December 3 at the Botanical Gardens; and the shows for the evenings of December 4-6 will be held at L’EnCRE. Dancers include local artists and invited troupes. The guest dance companies this year include Sisley Loubet (French Guiana-U.S.), Norma Claire (French Guiana), Maria Héléna Pinto (Mozambique), Yara Costa and Indios.com (Brazil), David Gaulein-Stef (French Guiana-France), Héléne Taddei-Lawson and ArtMouv’ (Corsica), The ArtLab.sr (Suriname), Nelson Ewandé, Cintia Golintin, and Léon Doye (French Guiana-Brazil-France). Master classes will be taught by Sisley Loubet, Hélène Taddei-Lawson, and David Gaulein-Stef. The “Ciné-danse” presentation will feature Biguine, a film by Guy Deslauriers (Martinique).
