Percussionist, composer, and singer Olivier Létur, also known by his pseudonym, Oshun, has just produced his first solo album, Loin de la mer [Far From the Sea]. Létur considers this album as an invitation to travel a world of rhythms imbued by diverse cultural influences.
This album “pays homage to pillars of Caribbean music,” Eugène Mona and Ti Emile Casérus, and to family members who have passed away. It includes a recording inspired by a mural by artist Coco René Corail.
Létur discovered his passion for the drums and music in general from an early age on the southern coast of Martinique in a small fishing village named Anse Dufour. Throughout the years, he has performed with notable artists such as Dédé Saint Prix, Lola Martin, Joby Valente, Mora Michalon, Josy Mass, and Max Cilla, and he often collaborates with the dance group Difekako [also see Avignon’s Théâtre d’Outre-Mer].
