“Tempo Latino” is a cultural project/music festival held in Vic-Fezensac, France. It offers a “history of the rhythm and musical origins of Afro-Cuban music, salsa, and international Afro-Latin bands.” It has been advertised as “a voyage that brings us [France] closer to Latinos of the Caribbean, New York, nearby Spain, and all of Latino Europe.” The festival will take place July23-26, 2009.
“Tempo Latino” will open on Thursday, July 23, presenting singer-composer Kumar and Alexander Abreu and the Havana d’Primera band (both from Cuba). Friday’s show will feature Snowboy (called the British guru of Afro-Cuban music) and the group Cubanismo, led by Jesús Alemañy. On Saturday, performances will include Cuban artists Mazacote, María Ochoa, and the group Sonora Cubana (performing son, guajira, and bolero classics) as well as Ricardo Lemvo and his Makina Loca, hailing from Angola, Congo, and the United States. The last show will feature Sweden’s Calle Real and Colombian band La 33.
