Travel + Leisure’s Top-Rated Tropical Islands

dynamic_resize

Travel + Leisure has just announced its list of top-rated tropical islands as chosen by its readers. Given that it is an American publication, the list is full of islands that are easily reachable form the United States (well, except maybe for Easter Island). In the list of 13 there are six Caribbean islands. The list include Ambergris Caye, Belize (noted for its location in the Belize Great Barrier Reef, a UNESCO world heritage site); Bermuda (for its 138-islands). U.S. Virgin Islands (noted for the factoid that its people, although U.S. citizens, can vote on the presidential primary but not on the presidential election); Vieques (which takes its name for an indigenous word meaning “small island”); St. Lucia (known as the “Helen of the Antilles” as an object of desire for both the French and the English fleets in the 18th century); and the British Virgin Islands (whose traditional music is known as fungi).

I know, I know, it’s hardly earth shattering news, but I love lists . . .
