The 2009 Reggae (Summer Festival) Sumfest will be held from July 19-25 in Montego Bay, Jamaica. Sumfest, the world’s greatest showcase of reggae music, usually begins with a huge beach party to precede this five-day musical extravaganza, which gathers notable performers of the Caribbean and beyond.
The July 19 beach party and the ensuing three days of epic live performances (starting with Dancehall Night on Thursday, July 23) that make up the annual event, will captivate the thousands of tourists and Jamaicans alike who make the trek each year to what has been called “the Mecca of reggae music festivals.” While the organisers are busy negotiating the acts for the usual slate of international inclusions in the line-up, some of the top flight local acts have already been confirmed. So far the line-up for this summer includes Beenie Man (also known as King of the Dancehall), Bounty Killer, Busy Signal, Coco Tea, Da’Ville, Elephant Man, Etana, Morgan Heritage, Movado, Rhaatid, and Tarrus Riley, among many others.
