The 2nd Annual Hudson River Eco & World Music Fest (formally known as Upstate Reggae on the River festival) will be held at Croton Point Park in Westchester County, NY on August 22, 2009 from noon to 8pm. The Hudson River Eco & World Music Festival lineup promises to include international reggae and world music artists. Currently, it looks like the festival has signed Brigadier Jerry, Mystic Dub, Living Truth, and soon to be confirmed – Sister Carol, Fat Joe and, Toots and the Maytals among others. The 2008 festival included Luciano, Stephen Marley, Rootz Underground, Leon & The Peoples, and Erykah Badu. The location is about half an hour from the Bronx and one hour from New York City and accessible via the Metro North train.
The 2009 Hudson River Eco & Music fest’s theme is “Recycling to Save the Planet.” It’s organized to raise environmental awareness and support for environmental causes in the Caribbean and New York State’s Hudson Valley region. The all-day reggae festival is also minimizing its own carbon footprint via recycling, composting, energy conservation and other green initiatives. As the organizer states: “An important goal of the Hudson Valley Reggae, World Music Eco Festival is to educate audiences about the solutions that are available for clean energy, transportation, food, clean air and water, waste reduction, and green residential living. Our goal is to promote interest and generate excitement about long-term community and planetary health and well being issues.”
The day-long family-oriented event will also feature Hip Hop, Latin and World Music entertainment also with food and craft vendors as well as ECO workshops, and children’s activities at the Children’s Pavilion, such as storytelling, face painting, ECO puppet show and a VIP Pavilion “Taste of the Caribbean” offering a variety of foods and beverages.
To help ensure a successful eco-area, organizers have partnered with the non-profit organization Sustainable Living Roadshow, a coalition of educators, entertainers and activists who tour across the country in a fleet of renewable fuel vehicles to empower communities and individuals to utilize sustainable living strategies for a healthier lifestyle and planet.
