The Sandy Point-based Chagredandies Moko Jumbie group has been the subject of a short promotional video filmed this past week. The filming of the video, commissioned by LIAT, the Caribbean airline, took place at The Circus, against the backdrop of the historic Berkeley Memorial in the St. Kitts capital of Basseterre. It is part of a series meant to highlight the unique culture, people, and places in various islands.

Moko jumbies are stilts walkers or dancers who follow a tradition thought to originate in West Africa. This weekend, the Chagredandies Moko Jumbie group participated in St. Marteen’s 5th Annual Boardwalk Mas, an event that celebrates the island’s traditional festive culture with marching bands, masquerades, carnival royals, martial arts, moko jumbies, and dance-theatre along the Great Bay Beach promenade.
