First Lady of Trinidad and Tobago Hazel Manning has said that spouses of Caribbean heads of government should have a more central role and a space of their own. “You really are an extension of your husband and government,” said Manning, explaining that the spouses should have their own offices, staff, and their own budgets to administer official State policy in a similar manner to that of their Latin American counterparts. She also wondered whether the difference had to do with the English system in Trinidad and similar Caribbean islands.
Manning, one of the few regional first ladies who also holds a Cabinet post, spoke about how the spouses of the Latin American Heads of State/Government who attended the Fifth Summit of the Americas discussed the details of the Summit during the summit’s spousal retreat. She added that there were presentations from the spouses from El Salvador, Mexico, Belize, and Trinidad and statements from Jamaica and other islands, “but we got a sense that it was not as comprehensive as those from the Latin American countries.”
Asked if she was specifically calling for a greater role for the Caribbean spouses in politics or administration, Manning said, “In providing service to the people and that is basically what it is.”

Patricia Manning?? I don’t know how to interpret that slip, but still funny…
At least she was on the right track about a possible inheritance of the English system. Let’s be honest – the concept of ‘banana republics’ was coined for Latin America where dictatorship is more the rule than exception.
The English, expectedly, will be horrified at the ‘impropriety’ of appointing your spouse to Cabinet as Hazel was.
She should have just kept quiet instead…

Hazel mannings arrogance and stupidity is limitless. She is in need of being endangered herself to inform her properly about defending violent foreigners who are as corrupt as her and using vicious police officers to steal from citizens and abuse them for the pleasure of asserting her ill informed projects on her victims and powerless citizens. Mrs manning should remember her own participation in abusing women and children before stealing for scheming malcreants with the police. She should learn to refrain from defaming citizens and screeching at them to sound judicious. you really are a corrupt rat no matter what impression of civility and superiority you give to convey that impression of to the public.
