Public Forum on Men and Marijuana in St. Kitts

In St. Kitts, the Department of Gender Affairs hosted a public discussion on marijuana, its uses, physiological and psychological aspects, advantages, and disadvantages in forum focusing on “Men and Marijuana.” Forum panelists included Chief Medical Officer Patrick Martin, psychiatrist Sharon Halliday, Reverend Troy Watson, magistrates, representatives of the police force, and members of religious groups such as the Rastafarians, the Muslim community, the Christian Council, and the Evangelical Association.

Dr. Patrick Martin emphasized the need for decriminalization in order to solve problems stemming from the misuse of marijuana. He stated that criminalization is draining the nation’s resources, which could be better put to use in solving underlying social ills. He said that, “The use of marijuana has been criminalized, and as a criminal offense it occupies the resources of the state in eradication, apprehension, prosecution and medical care. [. . .] The misuse is costing us resources.” He added that the number one substance causing serious problems in St. Kitts and Nevis as well as the Caribbean at large is alcohol, with prescription drugs following as the number two problem.

Dr. Martin said a region-wide study done among teenagers, indicated that the primary cause for their misuse of marijuana was not availability, explaining that “The factors that drive the young people to use are as follows, from the survey:  mental illness in the parent, a violent or abusive parent, and a substance-abusing parent.  One, two, and three push factors for young people in this country, and the Caribbean.”

In his view, the misuse of marijuana (like the misuse of cocaine, Viagra, Valium, and alcohol) is a health issue and stressed that the misuser needs health invention rather than criminal justice intervention. “I am willing to work with the bone fide Rastafarian community [. . .] to move the agenda forward towards decriminalization [. . .] because we are consuming too many resources doing the other thing,” he said.

  1. Hi All

I just wanted to start by saying that the contribution here is simply amazing. I think everyone does a fine job here and just wanted to make that known.

With that being said, I wanted to take a moment to note a site that I found to be helpful during the decision making process while purchasing Angels Eyes. AngelsEyesReview.com has been a massive help in the process and hope you can benefit in the same way.

  2. What’s up, is there anybody else here?
If there are any real people here looking to network, leave me a post.

  4. Hello to you. Welcome to our blog.

  5. I enjoyed the read but if you smoke marijuana and find that you are becoming tired and de motivated and you do not want to quit using marijuana. Try vaporizing your marijuana and you will get more a of a clean headed high buzz.

Like tobacco, marijuana smoke contains toxins that are known to be hazardous to the respiratory system. Among them are the highly carcinogenic polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, a prime suspect in cigarette-related cancers. These toxins are essentially a byproduct of combustion, separate from the pharmaceutically active components of marijuana, known as cannabinoids, which include THC. When you burn marijuana it produces quite a lot of tar. Pipes and joints generally do not have proper filters. Bongs are not the answer, because you inhale concentrated smoke.

The vaporizer certainly reduces the level of tar. You will not have to worry about the harmful carcinogens your body is absorbing when you inhale marijuana smoke.

    Just my 2 cents

  7. Hello!

Just introduce myself: I am a man (says my wife), I am 50 years old (hmm, that looks bad isn’t it?) and I am a terrible bad programmer (I say myself).
My hobbies: computer (of course), my 17 years old son and of course my wife. I like to play billiard, I do a very little bit and very simple programming in VB and I try to make a site for my billiard-club in the near future.

    thanks.

  9. I agree on some points especially the not locking up teens for smoking a plant. Is it a health risk? unsure because in the thousands of years of documented pot smoking there has never be a direct death caused by it.

Makes you wonder what is really so evil about it right? Call it a gateway drug? here is a though, remove the man made drugs from the face of the earth and leave what the earth grew for us.
