La tumba vacía (The Empty Tomb), a novel by anti-Trujillo leader Arnaldo Espaillat Cabral, has just been launched in the Dominican Republic. It narrates the events leading to the Restoration of the Republic in 1865, after a three-year war to oust the Spanish from the Dominican Republic for the second time since Independence was declared in 1821.

The book was launched by the cultural branch of the Dominican Republic’s Banco Central (Central Bank), which is under the direction of short story writer José Alcántara Almanzar.
