
Martinican writer and thinker, Édouard Glissant, will be one of the guests of honor, with Afghani novelist and filmmaker, Atiq Rahimi, at the 2009 Tunis International Book Fair. Glissant, the highly prolific author of novels, poetry, and essays such as of Le discours antillais (1981), La Poétique de la relation (1990), Mémoires des esclavages (2007), and the recent L’Intraitable beauté du monde: Adressé à Barack Obama (2009, with Patrick Chamoiseau), and Rahmi, winner of the prestigious Prix Goncourt for his novel, Syngue Sabour: Pierre de la patience, will each give a lecture on their respective work and will participate in book-signing events.
The 2009 Tunis International Book Fair, running from April 24 to May 3, 2009, is one of Tunisia’s major cultural events. The fair, which has sought to diversify the presence of publishers, writers, and professionals from around the world to have a better geographical and cultural representation, invites major figures from the literary world to sign and present their books, and to deliver talks.
