On November 5, 2008, in commemoration of Barack Obama’s historic electoral victory in the United States, Derek Walcott published a poem in the new president’s honor. Titled “Forty Acres: A Poem for Barack Obama,” it appeared in the London Times. The link below includes both the poem and a video of Walcott’s reading of the poem from his own painting studio in Point Becune, St. Lucia.
