Poto Mitan: Haitian Women, Pillars of the Global Economy
Directors Mark Schuller and Renée Bergan, (together with Tèt Ansamn Productions) bring us a compelling the documentary film told through the lives of five Haitian women workers. Keeping in mind the Haitian proverb, tande ak we se de (hearing and seeing are two different things), Poto Mitan succeeds in giving the global economy a human face. Each woman’s personal story explains neoliberal globalization, how it is gendered, and how it impacts Haiti. Through their collective activism, these women demonstrate that despite monumental obstacles in a poor country like Haiti, collective action makes change possible.
